Roux-en-y

About roux-en-y gastric bypass

There are a variety of weight loss surgeries that are used to treat life-threatening obesity. One of these is a
roux-en-y gastric bypass, where the stomach size is reduced by creating a smaller pouch on the top of the stomach and sealing it with staples or a plastic band. Furthermore, the newly formed stomach directly connects to the small intestine so that it bypasses the rest of the stomach and the upper portion of the small intestine. In general, this roux-en-y gastric bypass procedure is done by making a large incision in the abdomen or by several small incisions using smaller instruments and a camera to guide the procedure, which is called the laparoscopic approach. The results of this operation are you will feel full quicker, thus consuming less food, and since it bypasses parts of the intestine less calories are absorbed. This causes rapid weight loss and requires the patient to take vitamins and protein supplements to prevent deficiencies. As always, speak with your doctor about your options and see if a roux-en-y gastric bypass is right for you. Browse through our after-surgery products.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Compression Garment

Abdominal surgery recovery facts

Read here for information on abdominal surgery recovery. Immediately after your tummy tuck your abdomen will be swollen and you can expect some pain and discomfort. Depending on the degree of your surgery your physician will prescribe medication to control the discomfort. Release from the hospital could be within a few hours or could take as long as two to three days. The recovery from abdominoplasty is often compared to the recovery from a C-section. Follow your physicians instructions for activity, showering and changing. A pillow held to your abdomen while moving around can ease some of your discomfort. Exterior stitches can be removed within five to seven days; however deeper sutures will not come out for two to three weeks. At this point the dressing on the incision may be replaced by a compression garment to help accelerate the healing process. Abdominal binders are highly recommended and they will make your recovery much easier. We sell binders, compression garments, pillows and other products to help with abdominal surgery recovery. Most patients are moving around independently within 2-4 days and can resume a desk job within 5-7- days, most other jobs 10 -14 days.
